Student Pharmacy Technician Trainee (Band 4 Annex 21)

About the role

This is a two‑year trainee position within the Pharmacy at University Hospital Hairmyres, NHS Lanarkshire. You will support the pharmacy team in delivering safe, efficient medication services to in‑patients, out‑patients and discharged patients while working towards a recognised pharmacy technician qualification.

Key responsibilities

• Dispense in‑patient, out‑patient, controlled‑drug, clinical‑trial and clozapine prescriptions following Standard Operating Procedures.
• Perform final accuracy checks on prescriptions prepared by others.
• Assist the Senior Pharmacy Technician and deputise in their absence.
• Answer telephone and face‑to‑face technical enquiries from staff and patients.
• Support day‑to‑day operations of the dispensary, stores and clinical services.

Required profile

• Student aiming to achieve a Diploma/SQA National Certificate in Pharmacy Services (SVQ Level III) and GPhC registration.
• Minimum four National 5 qualifications, including Biology, Chemistry, English and Maths.
• Strong computer/keyboard skills and the ability to organise and prioritise work.
• Good written and verbal communication and a collaborative team attitude.

Required skills

• Use of pharmacy computer systems for dispensing and stock management.
• Dispensing prescriptions and conducting final accuracy checks.
• Handling controlled‑drug documentation and clinical‑trial medication.
