Band 6 Charge Nurse – Surgical Ward

About the role

The Band 6 Charge Nurse will support the Senior Charge Nurse in managing Ward 52, a 24‑bed surgical ward at Victoria Hospital, Kirkcaldy. The role combines clinical leadership with operational oversight, ensuring high‑quality, person‑centred care for post‑operative and high‑dependency patients.

Key responsibilities

• Assist the Senior Charge Nurse with day‑to‑day clinical and operational management of the ward.
• Support staff development, coaching and performance appraisal.
• Maintain and promote clinical governance standards and contribute to quality‑improvement initiatives.
• Coordinate multidisciplinary team activities to deliver safe surgical care.
• Ensure appropriate staffing levels and manage shift patterns in line with service demand.

Required profile

• Registered Nurse with extensive experience in acute surgical nursing.
• Demonstrated commitment to continuing professional development.
• Strong alignment with NHS Fife values of care, compassion, dignity, respect, openness, honesty, responsibility, quality and teamwork.
• Ability to work flexibly according to directorate service demands.
