Clinical Educator – Renal

About the role

The Clinical Educator – Renal will lead learning and development for nursing staff, students and support workers within the Renal Department of NHS Lanarkshire. This role ensures education aligns with NMC standards, NHS policies and service needs, promoting evidence‑based practice and safe patient care.

Key responsibilities

• Plan, deliver and evaluate education and training programmes for renal nursing staff and students.
• Support learners in achieving competencies such as haemodialysis, peritoneal dialysis, AVF management and other renal‑specific clinical skills.
• Collaborate with Practice Supervisors and Assessors to ensure high‑quality supervision.
• Promote reflective practice and facilitate clinical development.
• Act as a resource for students regarding placement expectations and professional behaviours.
• Participate in clinical audits, quality‑improvement initiatives and service development.
• Support the implementation of new clinical guidelines, pathways and technologies.
• Maintain up‑to‑date clinical knowledge and provide direct clinical support as a role model.

Required profile

• Registered Nurse or Operating Department Practitioner (ODP) with a valid professional registration.
• Educated to degree level or working towards it, with postgraduate expertise in renal nursing.
• Comprehensive knowledge of clinical guidelines and standards within renal practice.
• Commitment to NMC Code compliance and NHS Lanarkshire workforce development strategies.
