About the role
The Clinical Secretary provides comprehensive administrative support to a team of clinicians within NHS Lanarkshire, ensuring smooth operation of clinical services. This role is essential for maintaining accurate patient records and facilitating effective communication across the healthcare team.
Key responsibilities
- Type dictated clinical letters, discharge summaries, clinic follow‑up notes, referrals and legal reports.
- Prepare meeting minutes when required.
- Prioritise workload to meet agreed service standards.
- Organise and re‑arrange clinical activities such as outpatient clinics and operating lists, supporting theatre scheduling as needed.
- Book appointments, arrange investigative tests and chase diagnostic results on behalf of clinicians.
- Anticipate and resolve scheduling conflicts or delays in results.
- Maintain accurately coded and timely records on electronic systems, including Trakcare.
Required profile
- SVQ Level 2 qualification or equivalent experience.
- Minimum 2 years experience in healthcare administration or 3 years in a secretarial role.
- Good understanding of medical terminology.
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a team and adapt to change.
- Strong communication skills with patients, clinicians and colleagues.
