Clinical Secretary – Medicine for Older Adults

About the role

The Clinical Secretary supports a team of clinicians delivering medicine for older adults within NHS Lanarkshire. The role provides comprehensive administrative assistance to ensure efficient patient pathways and smooth clinical operations.

Key responsibilities

• Type dictated clinical letters, discharge summaries, clinic follow‑up notes and legal reports.
• Prepare meeting minutes where required.
• Prioritise workload to meet agreed service standards.
• Organise and re‑arrange clinical activities such as outpatient clinics and operating lists, including theatre scheduling support.
• Book appointments, arrange investigative tests and chase diagnostic results on behalf of clinicians.
• Anticipate and resolve scheduling conflicts or delays in results.
• Maintain accurate, coded records on electronic systems (e.g., Trakcare) to capture patient journey information.

Required profile

• SVQ Level 2 qualification or equivalent experience.
• At least 2 years of healthcare administration experience or 3 years in a secretarial role.
• Understanding of medical terminology.
• Evidence of effective teamwork and adaptability to change.
• Strong communication skills with patients, clinicians and colleagues.

Required skills

• Proficiency with the Trakcare electronic patient record system.
• Knowledge of medical terminology.
