Consultant Anaesthetist – General & Pain Management

About the role

The NHS Scotland is seeking a Consultant Anaesthetist to join the Victoria Hospital team in Kirkcaldy. This permanent position offers the opportunity to work across a broad surgical portfolio and lead the regional pain management service.

Key responsibilities

• Provide anaesthetic care for a wide range of specialties, including robotics, general surgery, obstetrics, orthopaedics, ophthalmology and paediatrics.
• Support day‑surgery services at the stand‑alone unit in Dunfermline and the new National Treatment Centre for elective orthopaedic work.
• Deliver multidisciplinary chronic pain management, undertaking patient assessments and developing individualized management pathways.
• Liaise with referrers, stakeholders and multidisciplinary teams to ensure seamless service delivery.

Required profile

• FRCA or equivalent qualification.
• Full GMC registration, a licence to practise and eligibility for the GMC Specialist Register.
• Evidence of higher specialist training leading to CCT, or within six months of confirmed entry, or a awarded Portfolio Pathway (formerly CESR).
• For non‑UK applicants, demonstrable equivalent training and experience to practice as a specialist in the UK.
