Consultant in Gastroenterology and General Medicine

About the role

The University Hospital Monklands is seeking an experienced Consultant to join its Gastroenterology and General Medicine team. The role involves delivering specialist outpatient and endoscopy services, contributing to the development of a new digital hospital, and supporting education and research activities.

Key responsibilities

• Provide outpatient gastroenterology clinics and manage elective and emergency endoscopy procedures.
• Lead the care of patients with acute upper gastrointestinal bleeding (AUGIB) in the endoscopy suite.
• Participate in the planning and implementation of services for Scotland’s first digital hospital.
• Engage in quality improvement, patient safety initiatives, and human factors training.
• Contribute to medical education, supervise trainees, and support research projects.

Required profile

• Fully qualified gastroenterologist with a current GMC registration.
• Demonstrated experience in both gastroenterology and general medicine.
• Commitment to service development, teaching, and research.
• Ability to propose and lead additional SPA (Specialist Professional Activity) time.

• Endoscopy (elective and emergency).
