Domestic Assistant – Domestic Services

About the role

The Domestic Assistant provides essential cleaning and domestic services to patients, staff and visitors across NHS Lanarkshire premises. Working Monday to Friday (09:00‑13:30), you will help maintain a safe, welcoming environment that meets NHS and Hospital Acquired Infection standards.

Key responsibilities

• Perform a range of cleaning tasks using machinery, equipment and manual handling techniques.
• Clean patient rooms, bedside communication systems, bed frames, chairs and other furniture according to the Daily Weekly Cleaning Schedule.
• Use cleaning agents in line with Health & Safety and COSHH guidelines.
• Report any areas that cannot be cleaned due to access issues to the supervisor.
• Support and assist new staff members in the working environment.

Required profile

• Knowledge of cleaning standards and related procedures.
• Willingness to complete on‑the‑job training and induction (4‑6 weeks) to achieve full competency.
• Working knowledge of Health & Safety, including risk assessment for individual tasks.
• Ability to carry out duties efficiently in a busy hospital setting.

Required skills

• Operation of cleaning machinery and equipment.
• Manual handling and lifting.
• Health & Safety compliance.
• Understanding of COSHH (Control of Substances Hazardous to Health) regulations.
