Economic Affairs Officer

About the role

The Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC) seeks a qualified Economic Affairs Officer to support the Office of the Executive Secretary. The role focuses on economic analysis, intergovernmental support, and technical cooperation across a defined sub‑specialty such as development economics, trade, or environmental economics.

Key responsibilities

• Monitor economic developments in the assigned area and identify emerging issues of relevance to the United Nations.
• Design and conduct studies, draft reports, and formulate policy recommendations and development strategies.
• Prepare speeches, presentations, and briefing materials for the Executive Secretary.
• Provide substantive support to intergovernmental bodies and represent ECLAC at international, regional, and national meetings.
• Design, implement, and monitor technical cooperation projects, including missions to member states.
• Support junior staff through review and feedback, and participate in cross‑departmental initiatives.

Required profile

• Advanced degree in economics, international relations, or a related field.
• Experience in economic analysis, policy formulation, or technical cooperation within an international or multilateral context.
• Strong communication skills, both written and oral, in English.
• Ability to work collaboratively with diverse stakeholders and represent the organization in high‑level meetings.
