Social Affairs Officer

About the role

The Social Affairs Officer will join the Division for Gender Affairs at the Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC). Reporting to the Chief of the Division, the incumbent will support the analysis and implementation of social development policies across the region.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct empirical research and analysis of social development trends at global, regional and national levels.
• Develop indicators and methodological tools for the evaluation of specific social topics.
• Liaise with government officials, UN agencies and other stakeholders on policy issues and provide technical advice.
• Organise and support expert group meetings, draft reports, and prepare summaries of meetings and conferences.
• Represent ECLAC at international forums, working groups and inter‑governmental meetings on gender equality and social development.
• Prepare inputs, briefing documents and reports for the Regional Conference on Women and other inter‑governmental processes.
• Contribute to the preparation of documentation for technical cooperation programmes.

Required profile

• Advanced university degree in social sciences, economics, gender studies or a related field.
• Demonstrated experience in social policy analysis, research and evaluation.
• Familiarity with inter‑governmental processes and ability to work with diverse stakeholders.
• Strong written communication skills for drafting reports, briefs and meeting summaries.
