Staff Nurse – Orthopaedic Trauma Ward

About the role

We are seeking a Staff Nurse to join Ward 33, a 23‑bed orthopaedic trauma ward delivering high‑quality, person‑centred care to a diverse patient population ranging from frail elderly patients to younger individuals with complex orthopaedic needs. The role involves rotational shift work, covering day and night duties, and offers opportunities to gain experience across the orthopaedic department.

Key responsibilities

• Provide compassionate, safe, and effective nursing care to patients admitted from the Emergency Department and day‑case orthopaedic surgeries.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams including doctors, therapists, and support services to ensure timely admissions, discharge planning and patient flow.
• Participate in the care of patients with delirium, acute medical conditions, and complex social backgrounds.
• Deliver care on the elective orthopaedic ward and the dedicated fractured neck of femur ward as required.
• Maintain accurate clinical documentation and adhere to hospital policies and procedures.

Required profile

• Registered Nurse with an acute clinical background or a strong interest in orthopaedic care.
• Ability to work effectively under pressure and demonstrate resilience in a busy acute ward environment.
• Excellent communication skills to facilitate admissions and discharge planning.
• Willingness to become a member of the Protection of Vulnerable Groups (PVG) Scheme.

Required skills

• Basic clinical skills for caring for midlines and applying traction vac.
