Backend Crypto Engineer (Layer 1)

About the role

Join the Crypto team at Payward to build and maintain high‑performance services that connect Kraken’s platform with a growing range of blockchains. You will design, implement and operate low‑latency, secure backend systems that process deposits, withdrawals and staking while protecting client funds.

Key responsibilities

• Integrate existing infrastructure with new layer‑1 blockchains.
• Design and develop low‑latency, high‑availability applications and data‑protection services.
• Write scalable, high‑volume services and reusable, testable code.
• Own, maintain and optimise crypto‑related backend services and database schemas.
• Collaborate with cross‑functional teams to ensure security and reliability of client transactions.

Required profile

• Minimum 3 years of backend development experience.
• Generalist knowledge of layer‑1 blockchain development.
• Strong problem‑solving ability in a fast‑changing technical environment.
• Passion for secure, privacy‑focused blockchain solutions.

Required skills

• Typescript (Node.js) and/or Rust.
• Docker, Kubernetes, Temporal and GNU/Linux environments.
• Git and automated testing frameworks.
• Understanding of cryptographic concepts and scalable application design.
• AI proficiency (highly desirable).
