Business and Trade Intern – British Embassy, Santiago

About the role

The Department for Business and Trade (DBT) is seeking a Business and Trade Intern to support the British Embassy in Santiago. The intern will help deepen commercial ties between the UK and Chile by assisting with market research, stakeholder engagement and the organisation of trade‑related events.

Key responsibilities

• Provide administrative support to DBT officers in Santiago, including business development, data analysis and logistical assistance.
• Conduct market research and produce reports to help British companies identify opportunities in Chile.
• Maintain and update internal databases and client relationship management systems with stakeholder contacts and activity records.
• Support the organisation of commercial events, trade fairs and high‑profile cross‑mission activities across priority sectors such as mining, energy, infrastructure, financial services, maritime and water.
• Assist in lead generation, identification of contractual opportunities and preparation of briefing materials for senior DBT staff.

Required profile

• Enrolled in or recent graduate of a degree related to business, economics, international relations or a similar field.
• Strong analytical and research abilities with attention to detail.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English; Spanish proficiency is an advantage.
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a diplomatic environment.
