About the role
The Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC) is seeking a Legal Affairs Intern to support the Secretariat of the Regional Agreement on Access to Information, Public Participation and Justice in Environmental Matters (Escazú Agreement) within the Sustainable Development and Human Settlements Division. The six‑month, unpaid internship is based in Santiago and offers exposure to international environmental law and policy.
Key responsibilities
- Conduct legal and policy research related to the Escazú Agreement.
- Attend meetings, take detailed notes, and assist with logistical arrangements.
- Draft documents, minutes, reports and translate them between English and Spanish.
- Prepare summaries and translate emails, forms and other inputs for the Secretariat and Agreement bodies.
- Provide general administrative support during meetings and events.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Chief of Division and Legal Officer.
Required profile
- Enrolled in a graduate program, final year of a bachelor’s program, or recent graduate (within one year).
- Studies in Law, Political Science, Environment, Sustainable Development, Public Administration, Translation, Data Management or related fields are desirable.
- Fluency in Spanish and working knowledge of English; French is an advantage.
