Research Assistant – Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean

About the role

The Research Assistant will support the Social Development Division of the Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean, reporting to the Senior Officer. The position involves collecting and analysing data, preparing background materials and reports, and coordinating research activities across the region.

Key responsibilities

• Identify, monitor and summarise substantive aspects of work in various countries, collecting and analysing data for assessment papers, studies and briefs.
• Maintain and update electronic and paper files, internal databases, and generate statistical tables, charts and periodic reports.
• Prepare presentations, tables, diagrams and visualisations to facilitate in‑depth analysis by supervisors and other users.
• Coordinate with UN agencies, research institutes and other departments to gather data and support the preparation of conference documentation.
• Draft programme and project summaries, manage review and clearance processes, and assist with the publication of reports in multiple languages.

Required profile

• High school diploma (or equivalent); supplementary technical studies or university courses in social/economic fields or data science are desirable.
• At least seven years of experience in data collection and research on social and economic development (five years if holding a university degree). Experience in data analytics, policy research, and supporting seminars or conferences is a plus.
• Proficiency in English and Spanish at UN Level III (reading, writing, listening, speaking).
