Senior Research Assistant – Population Affairs

About the role

The Senior Research Assistant will support the Population Division of ECLAC, reporting to the Chief of Demographic and Information on Population. The role involves independent monitoring, data collection, analysis, and preparation of research outputs for the Area’s programmes.

Key responsibilities

• Identify and monitor substantive aspects of work across various countries.
• Select, evaluate, summarize, and analyse documents and data for assessment papers, studies, briefs and reports.
• Retrieve, highlight, and compile information from diverse sources; input data into electronic databases and the internet.
• Prepare charts, graphs and other visual outputs for reporting and presentations.
• Assist in formulating project proposals and coordinate day‑to‑day monitoring and implementation.
• Produce analytical, quantitative and qualitative elements for regular and extraordinary work programmes.
• Build special data sets and design/update databases, documenting procedures and sources.
• Organise committee/task‑force meetings and workshops, draft agendas and procedural notes.
• Establish and manage internal databases, filing and storing relevant data.
• Participate in technical meetings, conferences and seminars; serve as secretary to committees and task forces.
• Liaise with external delegates, NGOs and internal stakeholders.
• Draft and edit complex technical texts and prepare newsletters on programme activities.
