Senior Social Affairs Officer

About the role

The Senior Social Affairs Officer will join the Social Development Division of ECLAC in Santiago, reporting to the Division Director. The role supports the design, monitoring and evaluation of public policies that promote socio‑economic development across the region.

Key responsibilities

• Provide authoritative technical and policy advice to inter‑governmental bodies, Member State officials and NGOs on planning, evaluating and implementing social development strategies.
• Monitor institutional mandates and action plans, influencing UN approaches to social development and integrating gender considerations.
• Lead the development of a research agenda, oversee major studies, and analyse trends in social protection, education, labour markets, demographics and related fields.
• Establish partnerships with governments, research institutes, academia, UN agencies, NGOs and the private sector to discuss emerging social development topics.
• Design and coordinate knowledge‑sharing campaigns to disseminate best practices and incorporate latest research into development programmes.
• Supervise the preparation of studies, reports and publications on socio‑economic issues.

Required profile

• Senior professional with extensive experience in social development, policy analysis and research.
• Proven ability to work with inter‑governmental and non‑governmental stakeholders at regional and global levels.
• Strong understanding of gender issues and their integration into social policies.
• Demonstrated experience leading large‑scale research projects and managing partnerships.
