Social Affairs Intern

About the role

The Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC) is seeking a Social Affairs Intern to support its Social Development Division. The internship lasts 2 to 6 months and offers hands‑on experience in civil society engagement, youth participation, and regional event organization.

Key responsibilities

• Research quantitative, qualitative, institutional and official information on civil society engagement, youth participation and education, and draft background inputs.
• Gather and summarize research on specific topics, map relevant stakeholders such as youth and civil‑society organisations, public institutions and other actors.
• Assist in organizing seminars, dialogues and expert meetings, including coordination with multiple stakeholders, participant outreach, and preparation of agendas, briefs and presentations.
• Support team meetings, prepare notes and follow‑up on coordination activities.
• Update content of databases and the Social Development Division’s website as needed.

Required profile

• Student in the final year of a bachelor’s degree, master’s programme or Ph.D., or a recent graduate.
• Field of study closely related to social development, public policy, youth affairs or a similar area.
• Fluency in spoken and written English and Spanish; French is a working language of the UN Secretariat.
• Ability to cover personal costs for travel, visa, accommodation and living expenses during the internship.
