SME – Permits & Environmental Studies

About the role

The Subject Matter Expert (SME) will plan, manage and monitor the identification, processing, acquisition and compliance of environmental and sectoral permits required for Glencore’s mining project in Chile. The role ensures permits are obtained on schedule, aligns permitting strategy with third‑party infrastructure, and supports bi‑national treaty requirements.

Key responsibilities

• Identify all environmental and sectoral permits needed for each project phase and develop detailed work plans.
• Coordinate and supervise the execution of environmental and social baseline studies.
• Advise on permitting strategy, assess risks of permit delays or denials, and propose mitigation measures.
• Ensure compliance with Chilean environmental legislation, sectoral regulations and Glencore corporate standards.
• Maintain communication with regulatory authorities in Chile and Argentina and monitor permit status throughout construction and operation.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Engineering, Natural Resources, Forestry, Civil Engineering or a related field.
• Minimum 8 years of experience managing environmental and sectoral permits for large‑scale mining projects.
• Proven experience in developing and evaluating environmental impact studies and statements.
• Strong knowledge of Chilean environmental legislation (Law No 19,300, SEIA) and international standards such as IFC and ICMM.
• Willingness to travel to sites and offices in Chile and Argentina.
