Staff Nurse – Interventional Radiology (Day Intervention Unit)

About the role

This permanent position is for a motivated Registered Nurse to join the Radiology team in the Day Intervention Unit (DIU) at Victoria Hospital, Kirkcaldy. You will work within a supportive, multidisciplinary environment delivering a wide range of diagnostic and therapeutic interventional radiology procedures.

Key responsibilities

• Assess, plan, implement and evaluate patient care from admission through discharge.
• Prepare patients, monitor them during procedures, and support recovery.
• Assist as a scrub or circulating nurse during image‑guided interventions.
• Monitor sedated patients and ensure safety in radiation‑controlled areas.
• Work frequently in fluoroscopy environments and tolerate prolonged standing with lead protective equipment.

Required profile

• Current NMC First Level Registered Nurse registration.
• Post‑registration experience in an acute clinical setting.
• Excellent communication, teamwork and organisational skills.
• Ability to prioritise workload and respond to changing clinical situations.
• Commitment to continuing professional development and evidence‑based practice.

Required skills

• Interventional radiology procedures (vascular/non‑vascular interventions, angioplasty, stenting, nephrostomy insertion, biopsies, drainages, line insertions, diagnostic fluoroscopy).
• Fluoroscopy operation and radiation safety.
• Patient monitoring during sedation.
• Scrub and circulating nursing techniques.
• Use of lead protective equipment.
