Consultant Anaesthetist – Pain Management (Permanent)

About the role

This permanent Consultant Anaesthetist position is based at Victoria Hospital, Kirkcaldy, within a busy District General Hospital. The role focuses on delivering high‑quality anaesthesia across a wide range of specialties and leading pain‑management services.

Key responsibilities

• Provide anaesthetic care for specialties including robotics, general surgery, breast, ENT, maxillofacial, obstetrics, gynaecology, trauma, orthopaedics, ophthalmology and paediatrics.
• Support day‑case surgery at the stand‑alone unit in Dunfermline and the new National Treatment Centre for elective orthopaedic work.
• Lead patient assessment and develop management pathways for complex chronic pain patients within the Fife Pain Management Service.
• Liaise with referrers, multidisciplinary teams and external stakeholders to ensure coordinated care.
• Maintain a non‑interventional approach to chronic pain management in line with the Scottish service model.

Required profile

• FRCA or equivalent qualification.
• Full GMC registration, a licence to practise and eligibility for inclusion on the GMC Specialist Register.
• Evidence of higher specialist training leading to CCT, or within six months of confirmed entry.
• Portfolio Pathway (formerly CESR) applicants must hold the award before applying.
• Non‑UK applicants must demonstrate equivalent training and eligibility for specialist registration in the UK.
