Locum Consultant Anaesthetist (6‑month Fixed Term)

About the role

This six‑month locum position is based at Victoria Hospital in Kirkcaldy, supporting a busy district general hospital anaesthesia department of over 40 staff. The role involves delivering anaesthetic care across a broad range of surgical specialties.

Key responsibilities

• Provide anaesthesia for elective and emergency procedures, including robotics, general surgery, breast, ENT, maxillofacial, obstetrics, gynaecology, trauma and orthopaedics, ophthalmology and paediatrics.
• Participate in day‑case surgery at the dedicated unit in Dunfermline and support the National Treatment Centre for orthopaedic work.
• Contribute to teaching programmes and maintain links with Dundee, Edinburgh and St Andrews medical schools.
• Engage in personal development and pursue special interests within anaesthesia.

Required profile

• Full GMC registration with a licence to practise and eligibility for the GMC Specialist Register.
• Post‑graduate medical qualification (e.g., FRCA, MRCP, FFICM) and evidence of higher specialist training leading to CCT, or within six months of confirmed entry.
• For non‑UK trained doctors, equivalent training and eligibility for specialist registration in the UK.
