Principal Agentic Engineer – Backend

About the role

Apply Digital is seeking a Principal Agentic Engineer (Back‑end) to lead the design and delivery of high‑performance, AI‑enabled backend systems. You will work with cutting‑edge large language models, vector databases, and cloud‑native architectures to power next‑generation digital products for global brands.

Key responsibilities

• Lead the architecture, development, and scaling of secure backend services using Python and modern cloud‑native patterns.
• Translate product, UX, and engineering backlogs into detailed, spec‑driven requirements for AI coding agents.
• Coordinate teams of coding agents to implement features and meet delivery milestones.
• Design and expose RESTful APIs for frontend, mobile, and third‑party integrations.
• Build AI‑powered pipelines, including vector stores, Retrieval‑Augmented Generation (RAG), and integration with LLMs such as Gemini, Claude, and GPT‑4/5.
• Develop and maintain infrastructure on Google Cloud Platform, leveraging Vertex AI and Google Gen AI APIs.

Required profile

• Proven leadership at Staff or Lead level with a track record of delivering complex software end‑to‑end.
• Ability to work autonomously, turning loosely defined goals into well‑architected, production‑grade solutions.
• Strong architectural judgment and experience guiding distributed, cloud‑native systems.
