Appointments Officer – NHS Fife

About the role

The Appointments Officer will join a small team delivering a single point of access for patients requiring Allied Health Professions services across Fife. The role primarily supports the Podiatry service within the Fife‑wide Musculoskeletal Hub, which also covers physiotherapy and orthotics, handling referrals, clinic bookings and clinician diaries for multiple clinics and waiting lists.

Key responsibilities

• Manage the smooth pathway of patient referrals to the Musculoskeletal Hub.
• Book appointments and maintain clinician diaries for physiotherapy, podiatry and orthotics services.
• Handle a high volume of patient calls (approximately 34,000 per year) efficiently and courteously.
• Maintain accurate records and update scheduling systems in line with NHS standards.
• Provide administrative support to ensure timely patient access to allied health services.

Required profile

• Approachable and pleasant manner with excellent communication and listening skills.
• Ability to work effectively under pressure and manage competing priorities.
• Competent English language skills to perform the role safely and effectively.
• Relevant education to an equivalent standard grade or comparable experience.
