Business Process Engineer – IOP (Antofagasta)

About the role

Apiux Tech, a staffing agency focused on matching talent with strategic opportunities, is recruiting a Business Process Engineer for the Integrated Operations Programme (IOP) of the European Southern Observatory (ESO). The engineer analyzes, maps, models and optimizes operational processes to ensure standardization, traceability and efficiency through BPM and Lean methodologies, supporting operational excellence in a complex, international environment.

The work is on-site in Antofagasta (ESO Observatory) on an 8x6 shift schedule (8 days on-site, 6 days off in Santiago). Per diem and operational travel expenses are fully covered during working days in Antofagasta.

Key responsibilities

• Gather and document operational processes through interviews, field observations and collaborative workshops.
• Map and model As-Is and To-Be processes using BPMN 2.0.
• Drive continuous improvement using BPM and Lean Management frameworks.
• Prepare technical documentation and maintain process repositories.
• Perform cost-benefit analyses to support process optimization.
• Support methodology reviews to ensure quality and full traceability of process models.
• Collaborate closely with cross-functional and international teams.

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in Industrial Engineering, Process Engineering or a related field.
• Minimum of 5 years of overall professional experience.
• At least 2 years of hands-on experience in business process management, process mapping and discovery, and process gathering and documentation.
• Proven track record in continuous improvement initiatives.
• Advanced English proficiency (mandatory).

Required skills

• Practical knowledge of BPMN 2.0.
• Intermediate to advanced MS Excel.
• Basic working knowledge of Python and Linux/Shell.
• Hands-on experience with process modeling tools such as Bizagi, MagicDraw, Camunda or Microsoft Visio.
• Nice to have: BPM, Lean or Enterprise Architecture certifications, Lean Six Sigma, and industry experience in mining, energy, manufacturing, astronomical observatories or similar highly operationalized environments.
