Charge Nurse – Main Theatre (Ophthalmology)

About the role

The Charge Nurse for the Main Theatre in Ophthalmology will lead the peri‑operative nursing team, ensuring safe, high‑quality care for patients undergoing eye surgery. This permanent NHS position is based in Lanarkshire and involves coordinating patient assessment, care planning and delivery within a busy surgical environment.

Key responsibilities

• Support and manage nursing staff in the peri‑operative area, ensuring patient needs are assessed, care plans are implemented and outcomes are evaluated.
• Contribute to the development, implementation and maintenance of departmental policies, procedures, standards and protocols.
• Lead and participate in clinical audits to maintain and improve standards of patient care.
• Ensure compliance with NMC/HPC & AODP Codes of Professional Conduct and other relevant professional guidelines.
• Collaborate with the multidisciplinary team to deliver seamless, patient‑centred care.

Required profile

• Registered Nurse with a valid NMC registration.
• Degree‑level education, with postgraduate expertise in the relevant specialty.
• Comprehensive knowledge of clinical guidelines and standards within peri‑operative ophthalmology.
• Demonstrated ability to lead safety initiatives and manage a clinical team effectively.
