Charge Nurse - Main Theatre - Ophthalmology

About the role

The Charge Nurse for the Main Theatre – Ophthalmology will lead the peri‑operative environment, ensuring high‑quality patient care from assessment through to evaluation. You will support and manage nursing staff, coordinate multidisciplinary teams and uphold professional standards across the department.

Key responsibilities

• Assess patient care needs, develop and implement care programmes, and set clinical standards.
• Manage the peri‑operative area, ensuring safe and efficient workflow.
• Support and supervise nursing staff, fostering patient and carer involvement.
• Contribute to the development, implementation and maintenance of policies, procedures, standards and protocols.
• Maintain full knowledge of NMC, HPC and AODP Codes of Professional Conduct.
• Lead and participate in clinical audits to guarantee quality of care.

Required profile

• Registered Nurse with a valid NMC registration.
• Degree‑level education, with postgraduate expertise in the relevant specialty.
• Comprehensive knowledge of clinical guidelines and standards for ophthalmic peri‑operative care.
• Demonstrated ability to lead a team and ensure patient safety.
