Consultant Anaesthetist

About the role

We are seeking a Consultant Anaesthetist to join a busy District General Hospital team of over 40 professionals. The role includes on‑call duties covering the ICU and provides anaesthesia and critical care across a wide range of surgical specialties.

Key responsibilities

• Deliver anaesthetic care for elective and emergency surgeries, including robotics, orthopaedics, obstetrics, ENT and paediatrics.
• Provide critical care support for ICU patients, managing approximately 400 level‑3 admissions annually.
• Participate in day‑case surgery at the stand‑alone unit in Dunfermline and support the National Treatment Centre for orthopaedic work.
• Contribute to teaching programmes and postgraduate medical education in collaboration with Dundee, Edinburgh and St Andrews medical schools.
• Engage in personal development and pursue special interests within anaesthesia and critical care.

Required profile

• Full GMC registration with a licence to practise.
• Medical postgraduate qualification (e.g., FRCA, MRCP, FFICM) and inclusion on the Specialist Register, or within six months of a Certificate of Completion of Training.
• Eligibility for the UK Specialist Register (CCT or equivalent).
• Eligibility to work in the UK, with appropriate visa or settled status.
