Consultant Gastroenterology – NHS Ayrshire & Arran

About the role

The NHS Ayrshire and Arran is seeking an experienced Consultant in Gastroenterology to join a dynamic, integrated team delivering both inpatient and outpatient services across the region. Based at University Hospital Crosshouse, you will help shape the future of gastroenterology care while working in a supportive, innovative environment.

Key responsibilities

• Provide high‑quality inpatient and outpatient gastroenterology care, including emergency and elective services.
• Lead and develop multidisciplinary teams to deliver a Pan‑Ayrshire gastroenterology service.
• Participate in teaching, mentorship and the expansion of community‑facing training posts.
• Contribute to service development, research and quality improvement initiatives.
• Support the elimination of medical boarding and ensure patient‑centred care.

Required profile

• Full GMC registration with a licence to practise in the UK.
• Substantive consultant experience in gastroenterology.
• Commitment to teaching, research and service development.
• Willingness to work on a 10‑programmed activity basis, with flexibility for part‑time or job‑share arrangements.
