Consultant in Gastroenterology

About the role

The NHS Ayrshire and Arran is seeking an experienced Consultant in Gastroenterology to join a multidisciplinary team delivering a Pan‑Ayrshire service. This permanent, full‑time position offers the chance to shape future patient care across both inpatient and outpatient settings.

Key responsibilities

• Provide high‑quality gastroenterology care for in‑patients and out‑patients across the region.
• Contribute to eliminating medical boarding and ensuring patient‑centred care.
• Lead and mentor junior doctors, including GP trainees and Clinical Development Fellows.
• Participate in and support postgraduate education programmes.
• Develop innovative, community‑facing training posts and service pathways.
• Collaborate within an integrated team to deliver seamless acute, community and primary care services.

Required profile

• Fully qualified Consultant in Gastroenterology, registered with the appropriate medical bodies.
• Motivated, enthusiastic and committed to service development.
• Willingness to work on a 10 programmed activity basis, with flexibility for part‑time or job‑share arrangements.
• Strong leadership and teaching abilities.
