Consultant Physician – Respiratory & General Medicine

About the role

NHS Lanarkshire is recruiting a Consultant Physician in Respiratory and General Medicine to join University Hospital Monklands. The role offers a blend of clinical leadership, specialist asthma services, and involvement in teaching and research.

Key responsibilities

• Lead the Severe Asthma service, run a specialist asthma clinic and represent the hospital on the Pan‑Lanarkshire Severe Asthma MDT.
• Oversee Respiratory Nurse‑Led clinics and chair a weekly MDT discussing severe asthma patients on biologic therapies.
• Contribute to the Pan‑Lanarkshire Community Respiratory Team MDT, focusing on early supported discharge and admission‑avoidance pathways.
• Deliver a full range of elective respiratory clinics, procedural work and inpatient management of complex patients.
• Participate in the general medical rota, including weekend duties.
• Engage in quality improvement, patient safety, medical education, research and appraisal activities as desired.

Required profile

• Subspecialty training and experience in respiratory and general medicine.
• Enthusiastic, hard‑working consultant able to work full‑time (8PA) or part‑time.
• Commitment to service development, teaching, research and quality improvement.
