Consultant Physician – Respiratory & General Medicine

About the role

NHS Lanarkshire is recruiting a Consultant Physician in Respiratory and General Medicine to be based at University Hospital Monklands. The post is substantive, full‑time on an 8PA basis, with flexibility for part‑time arrangements.

Key responsibilities

• Deliver a full range of elective respiratory clinics and specialist procedural work.
• Manage in‑patient care of complex medical cases and participate in the general medical rota, including weekends.
• Lead the Severe Asthma service, run a specialist asthma clinic and represent the hospital on the Pan‑Lanarkshire Severe Asthma MDT.
• Oversee Respiratory Nurse‑Led clinics and chair a weekly MDT discussing severe asthma patients on biologic therapies.
• Contribute to the Pan‑Lanarkshire Community Respiratory Team MDT, focusing on Early Supported Discharge and Admission Avoidance pathways.
• Engage in SPA activities such as quality improvement, patient safety, medical education, research, appraisal and teaching.

Required profile

• Hard‑working, enthusiastic consultant with completed subspecialty training in respiratory or general medicine.
• Demonstrated interest in severe asthma management and ability to lead a multidisciplinary service.
• Commitment to quality improvement, patient safety, education and research.

Required skills

• Respiratory specialist procedural expertise.
• Severe asthma management, including biologic therapy administration.
• In‑patient management of complex medical patients.
• Multidisciplinary team coordination.
