Domestic Assistant – NHS Lanarkshire

About the role

The Domestic Assistant provides essential cleaning and domestic services to patients, staff and visitors across NHS Lanarkshire premises. Working Monday to Friday, the role ensures a safe, welcoming environment that meets hospital infection control standards.

Key responsibilities

• Perform a range of cleaning tasks using machinery, equipment and manual handling techniques.
• Maintain cleaning standards as set out in daily and weekly schedules, covering beds, bedside communication systems, patient chairs and other surfaces.
• Report any areas that cannot be cleaned due to access issues to the supervisor.
• Use cleaning agents in line with Health & Safety and COSHH guidelines.
• Support and assist new staff members in the working environment.

Required profile

• Knowledge of cleaning standards and related procedures.
• Willingness to complete on‑the‑job training and induction (4‑6 weeks) to achieve full competency.
• Understanding of Health & Safety practices, including risk assessment for individual tasks.
• Ability to work efficiently in a busy hospital setting.
