Graduate Apprentice Operating Department Practitioner (ODP) – BSc Hons

About the role
This three‑year Graduate Apprenticeship combines online theory (20%) with clinical work‑based learning (80%) to train you as an Operating Department Practitioner (ODP) within NHS Fife. You will rotate through peri‑operative environments, gaining hands‑on experience across the anaesthetic, surgical and post‑anaesthetic phases of patient care.
Key responsibilities
- Support the multi‑disciplinary team in delivering high‑quality peri‑operative care.
- Assist with patient preparation, positioning and monitoring during anaesthetic and surgical phases.
- Maintain and prepare operating theatre equipment and supplies.
- Document patient information accurately and adhere to clinical protocols.
- Collaborate with surgeons, anaesthetists and nursing staff to ensure patient safety.
- Complete online educational modules and reflect on clinical experiences.
Required profile
- Caring, self‑motivated individual with excellent communication skills.
- Commitment to independent study and personal development.
- Proficiency with digital technology, information systems and email.
- Ability to work to deadlines and prioritize tasks.
- Meet SQA national qualifications or equivalent work‑experience criteria.
- English language proficiency equivalent to IELTS 6.5 (no band below 6.5).

What we offer
- Fully funded BSc (Hons) degree in Operating Department Practice.
- Band 5 salary range £34,544 – £43,039 per annum.
- Permanent apprenticeship contract with NHS Fife.

- Eligibility to apply for HCPC registration upon successful completion.
