Head of Cardio-Respiratory Service

About the role

The Head of Cardio-Respiratory Service will provide strategic leadership and advanced clinical expertise for the Cardio‑Respiratory diagnostic portfolio across NHS Fife’s two acute hospitals. You will shape service development, ensure high‑quality patient care, and support a multidisciplinary team.

Key responsibilities

• Lead day‑to‑day operations of Cardio‑Respiratory services at two acute sites.
• Manage recruitment, training, appraisal and professional development of a multidisciplinary team.
• Oversee service development, quality assurance, budgeting and procurement of specialist equipment.
• Perform and report advanced cardiac investigations, including complex echocardiography, regional echo services and pacemaker follow‑up.
• Contribute to clinical governance, audits, policy development and participation in clinical trials.

Required profile

• RCCP registration with a BSc (Hons) in Clinical Physiology (Cardiology) or equivalent experience.
• Substantial experience at Advanced CCP level in echocardiography, pacemaker work, exercise testing and rhythm analysis.
• Proven leadership, staff development and service‑improvement capabilities.
• Excellent clinical judgement, autonomy and strong communication skills.
