Healthcare Support Worker – Band 2 Nursing Auxiliary

About the role

The Healthcare Support Worker will join Ward 6, Supported Discharge Unit, providing essential clinical and administrative support to the nursing team. You will work in a fast‑paced acute hospital environment, helping to deliver high‑quality, seamless care for patients and their families.

Key responsibilities

• Assist the nursing team with an extended range of clinical tasks and direct patient care.
• Initiate investigations according to protocol and support medical and nursing management.
• Organise and complete patient discharges, managing the discharge process independently.
• Perform administrative duties and maintain accurate patient records.
• Participate in training and work without direct supervision from a registered nurse.
• Cover rotating shifts including days, nights and weekends.

Required profile

• Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
• Commitment to patient safety, confidentiality and high standards of care.
• Interest and ability to work in an acute hospital setting.
• Relevant experience in an acute hospital environment.
• Willingness to become a member of the Protection of Vulnerable Groups (PVG) scheme.

Required skills

• Vital signs monitoring.
• Venipuncture.
• Cannulation.
• Catheterisation.
• Good working knowledge of IT systems.
