Lead Advanced Nurse Practitioner – General Surgery

About the role

This senior position combines autonomous clinical practice with strategic leadership within NHS Fife’s General Surgery service. You will deliver end‑to‑end patient care while shaping the development of the Advanced Nurse Practitioner (ANP) workforce.

Key responsibilities

• Provide independent clinical assessment, diagnosis, treatment and discharge for surgical patients.
• Lead and supervise the ANP team, overseeing appraisal, mentorship and professional development.
• Drive service redesign, quality‑improvement projects and audit activities to enhance patient flow and outcomes.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams across elective and unscheduled surgical pathways.
• Ensure consistent standards of advanced practice and promote a culture of continuous improvement.

Required profile

• Qualified Advanced Nurse Practitioner with a Master’s in Advanced Practice (or equivalent).
• Independent prescriber status (V300).
• Extensive clinical experience in General Surgery or a closely related specialty.
• Proven leadership experience with the ability to influence practice and support staff development.
• Eligibility to work in the United Kingdom and willingness to join the PVG Scheme.
