Maintenance Services Manager – Lead AP Water

About the role

This senior technical leadership position is based at University Hospital Monklands. The Maintenance Services Manager (Lead AP Water) will be responsible for the safety and compliance of all water systems, ensuring they meet statutory requirements and NHS Scotland guidelines.

Key responsibilities

• Act as the technical lead for healthcare water systems, ensuring safe operation and maintenance in line with SHTM 04‑01.
• Develop, implement and oversee water safety planning and maintenance programmes, including testing, inspections and remedial actions.
• Own water safety governance, providing input to the Water Safety Group, managing incidents, and maintaining compliance evidence.
• Maintain safe systems of work, permits, contractor control and competence assessment to ensure work is planned, authorised and delivered safely.
• Drive continuous improvement by addressing Authorising Engineer audit actions promptly and strengthening statutory reporting and safety culture.

Required profile

• Professional qualification and corporate membership of a relevant body (e.g., CIBSE, IET).
• Senior estates or facilities management experience with a clear focus on water safety.
• Detailed knowledge of SHTM 04‑01 and healthcare water system compliance.
• Proven experience leading assurance activity, audits and action‑plan closure.
• Confidence working within governance structures and reporting on risk and performance.
• Ability to lead, mentor and develop others in a safety‑critical environment.
• Willingness and ability to be appointed Authorised Person (Water) and a full UK driving licence.
