Pharmacy Technician – Rotational & Checking (12‑month Fixed‑Term)

About the role

This 12‑month fixed‑term position supports the pharmacy services across NHS Lanarkshire hospitals. Working on a rotational basis, you will follow Standard Operating Procedures to ensure a high‑quality pharmaceutical service for patients.

Key responsibilities

• Dispense in‑patient, out‑patient, controlled‑drug, clinical‑trial and clozapine prescriptions in line with SOPs.
• Perform final accuracy checks on prescriptions prepared by other staff.
• Act as deputy for the Senior Pharmacy Technician when they are absent.
• Answer technical enquiries from staff and patients, escalating clinical queries to the appropriate pharmacist.
• Liaise with nursing and medical teams regarding prescription interventions and missing information.
• Maintain appropriate stock levels, ensure correct storage, rotation and quality of medicines.
• Order and receive stock for the dispensary.

Required profile

• Diploma/SQA National Certificate in Pharmacy Services or equivalent qualification.
• Registered Pharmacy Technician with the General Pharmaceutical Council.
• Commitment to GPhC revalidation and maintaining a professional development portfolio.

Required skills

• Dispensing of prescriptions, including controlled drugs and clinical‑trial medications.
• Prescription accuracy checking.
• Stock management and inventory control.
