Pharmacy Technician – Rotational & Checking

About the role

This fixed‑term position (12 months) is based in NHS Lanarkshire hospitals and involves rotating through designated pharmacy areas to deliver high‑quality pharmaceutical services. The role supports the Senior Pharmacy Technician and contributes to safe dispensing and checking processes.

Key responsibilities

• Dispense inpatient, outpatient, controlled‑drug, clinical‑trial and clozapine prescriptions following Standard Operating Procedures.
• Perform final accuracy checks on prescriptions prepared by other staff.
• Deputise for the Senior Pharmacy Technician during absences.
• Answer telephone and face‑to‑face technical enquiries from staff and patients, escalating where appropriate.

Required profile

• Diploma/SQA National Certificate in Pharmacy Services or equivalent that enables registration with the General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC).
• Registered pharmacy technician with the GPhC.
• Full UK/EU/EEA driving licence.
• Written agreement from current line manager if applying as a seconded NHS employee.
• Commitment to GPhC revalidation and maintaining a professional development portfolio.

Required skills

• Dispensing prescriptions.
• Final accuracy checking of medication orders.
• Use of Standard Operating Procedures in aseptic services.
