Principal Pharmacist – Clinical Services

About the role

The NHS Lanarkshire team is seeking a forward‑thinking pharmacy leader to join University Hospital Monklands as Principal Pharmacist – Clinical Services. This senior position will shape the delivery and transformation of clinical pharmacy services across a major acute hospital and influence pharmacy strategy throughout the health board.

Key responsibilities

• Provide strategic and operational leadership for clinical pharmacy services, covering specialties such as renal medicine and infectious diseases.
• Lead, mentor and inspire a team of specialist and advanced clinical pharmacists to deliver safe, effective, patient‑centred care.
• Drive innovation, quality improvement and clinical excellence across the pharmacy department.
• Act as Deputy Head of Pharmacy, contributing to departmental strategy, workforce development, operational performance and service sustainability.
• Offer specialist pharmaceutical advice to senior hospital management and collaborate with medical, nursing and operational colleagues.
• Champion medicines optimisation, patient safety and clinical governance.
• Support the Monklands Replacement Project by designing and implementing modern clinical pharmacy models of care.

Required profile

• Experienced clinical pharmacist with substantial acute‑care expertise.
• Proven track record of leadership, service development and team management.
• Passion for improving patient outcomes and delivering high‑quality pharmacy services.
• Ability to influence senior stakeholders and work collaboratively across multidisciplinary teams.
