Principal Pharmacist – Clinical Services

About the role

NHS Lanarkshire is seeking an experienced pharmacy leader to join University Hospital Monklands as Principal Pharmacist – Clinical Services. The role combines strategic oversight of clinical pharmacy services with the Deputy Head of Pharmacy function, influencing pharmacy strategy across a major acute hospital and the wider health board.

Key responsibilities

• Provide strategic and operational leadership for clinical pharmacy services across specialties such as renal medicine and infectious diseases.
• Lead and develop a team of specialist and advanced clinical pharmacists, ensuring safe, patient‑centred pharmaceutical care.
• Act as Deputy Head of Pharmacy, contributing to departmental strategy, workforce planning and service sustainability for a pharmacy department of ~100 staff.
• Collaborate with medical, nursing and operational colleagues to champion medicines optimisation, patient safety and clinical governance.
• Shape and implement innovative clinical pharmacy models within the new Monklands Replacement Hospital.

Required profile

• Significant acute care pharmacy experience, preferably in a large hospital setting.
• Proven leadership and service development track record.
• Strong ability to influence senior management and multidisciplinary teams.
• Commitment to improving patient outcomes through clinical pharmacy excellence.
