Senior Clinical Pharmacist – Surgical Services

About the role

The NHS Ayrshire and Arran is seeking a Senior Clinical Pharmacist to lead surgical pharmacy services across University Hospital Ayr and University Hospital Crosshouse. This permanent, full‑time position (36 hrs/week) offers an opportunity to shape pharmacy delivery for trauma, orthopaedics, urology, bariatric and general surgery, as well as pre‑operative assessment clinics.

Key responsibilities

• Lead and develop clinical pharmacy services for surgical inpatient areas and pre‑operative clinics.
• Manage a multidisciplinary team of clinical pharmacists and pharmacy technicians.
• Provide specialist expertise to trauma & orthopaedics, urology, bariatric and general surgery specialties.
• Drive service redesign, patient prioritisation, pharmacist prescribing and discharge pathways.
• Support critical care pharmacy provision as part of the rota.
• Participate in weekend, public‑holiday and late‑night rotas; job‑share arrangements considered.

Required profile

• Master of Pharmacy (MPharm) degree or equivalent.
• Registered with the General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC).
• Completion of the Post‑Registration Foundation Programme for Pharmacists or equivalent clinical knowledge.
• Postgraduate Diploma in Clinical Pharmacy or RPS Core Advanced Curriculum (or working towards).
• UK driving licence (essential).
