Senior Clinical Pharmacist – Surgical Services

About the role

The NHS Ayrshire and Arran is seeking a Senior Clinical Pharmacist to lead surgical pharmacy services across University Hospital Ayr and University Hospital Crosshouse. This permanent, full‑time position involves overseeing pharmacy provision for surgical in‑patients and pre‑operative clinics, while supporting critical care units on a rota basis.

Key responsibilities

• Lead clinical pharmacy services for trauma & orthopaedics, urology, bariatric and general surgery specialties.
• Manage a team of clinical pharmacists and pharmacy technicians, driving service redesign and discharge pathways.
• Prioritise patients, conduct pharmacist prescribing and develop the clinical pharmacy technician role.
• Participate in weekend, public holiday and late‑night rotas, including critical care coverage.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to ensure safe, caring and respectful patient care.

Required profile

• Master of Pharmacy degree or equivalent and registration with the General Pharmaceutical Council.
• Post‑registration foundation training or equivalent clinical knowledge.
• Postgraduate Diploma in Clinical Pharmacy or RPS Core Advanced Curriculum (or working towards it).
• UK driving licence (essential).
• Demonstrated leadership experience in a hospital pharmacy setting.
