Senior Nurse (Fixed-Term) – University Hospital Monklands

About the role

The University Hospital Monklands is seeking an experienced Senior Nurse to act as the professional and clinical lead for nursing and midwifery services. This fixed‑term, part‑time position (28.8 hrs/week) lasts six months and offers the opportunity to influence clinical standards across NHS Lanarkshire.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and implement strategies and operational plans to meet changing service requirements.
• Deputise for the Associate Director of Nursing, Chief of Nursing Services, or Chief of Midwifery Services, providing professional advice to the Nurse Director.
• Lead clinical audit and research activities, evaluate and monitor clinical standards within the governance framework.
• Coach, develop, support and advise nursing/midwifery staff on professional clinical issues.
• Participate in assessing health‑care needs of patients, carers and staff to ensure adequate service provision.

Required profile

• Registered Nurse, Midwife or Operating Department Practitioner with a valid NMC/HCPC registration.
• Educated to, working towards, or operating at Masters level.
• Demonstrated knowledge of NHS Scotland’s Leadership Qualities framework or an equivalent.
• Management experience gained through continuous professional development.
• Professional, leadership and managerial experience within the relevant speciality, showing breadth of knowledge to lead safety effectively.
