Senior Pharmacy Technician – Dispensary Services

About the role

The Senior Pharmacy Technician will work closely with the responsible pharmacist to ensure safe, efficient, and patient‑centred dispensary services across NHS Lanarkshire. This position provides leadership for the dispensary team, overseeing the supply of discharge prescriptions, controlled drugs, and stock to wards and departments.

Key responsibilities

• Plan and organise daily dispensary workload and staffing to deliver prompt service.
• Prioritise tasks for technical and assistant staff, ensuring effective workflow.
• Supervise dispensing activities, maintaining good dispensing practice and high standards.
• Ensure accurate documentation, filing, and record‑keeping for equipment and facilities.
• Develop, implement, and monitor standard operating procedures for all dispensing processes.
• Lead and coordinate the dispensary team, providing clear direction and support.
• Foster a positive team culture, support workforce development, and ensure staff training and competence.
• Collaborate with senior pharmacists on service improvement, workforce planning, and system development.

Required profile

• National Certificate in Pharmaceutical Sciences or equivalent.
• SVQ Level III.
• Registration with the General Pharmaceutical Council.
