Senior Pharmacy Technician – Dispensary Services

About the role

The Senior Pharmacy Technician will work closely with the responsible pharmacist to ensure safe, efficient and patient‑centred dispensary services across NHS Lanarkshire. This senior position provides leadership for the dispensary team, overseeing the supply of discharge prescriptions, controlled drugs and stock to wards and departments.

Key responsibilities

• Plan and organise daily dispensary workload and staffing to meet patient and department needs.
• Supervise dispensing activities, ensuring compliance with good dispensing practice and national/local guidelines.
• Maintain accurate documentation, records of equipment maintenance and standard operating procedures.
• Provide line management for dispensary staff, handling recruitment, appraisal, attendance and performance management.
• Lead and support a multidisciplinary team including pharmacists, pharmacy technicians and support workers.
• Foster a positive team culture and ensure all staff are trained, competent and confident in their roles.

Required profile

• Qualified Pharmacy Technician with extensive experience in hospital dispensary services.
• Demonstrated leadership and people‑management abilities.
• Knowledge of national and local guidelines for controlled drugs and medication supply.
• Ability to develop and implement standard operating procedures.
