Senior Staff Nurse – Barra

About the role

We are seeking a motivated Senior Staff Nurse to join the Barra Nursing Team on the Isle of Barra. The role involves rotational shifts delivering acute, community and emergency care to the island’s 1,300 residents across hospital and community settings.

Key responsibilities

• Provide high‑quality nursing care in the hospital (in‑patient, emergency, outpatient) and community services including CTAC and palliative care.
• Lead and support the nursing team, covering the duties of the Senior Charge Nurse and Charge Nurse when absent.
• Manage non‑staff resources and contribute to multidisciplinary team decisions.
• Supervise and educate learners and ensure compliance with mandatory training.

Required profile

• Registered Nurse with current registration on the PVG Scheme.
• Experience in acute, community, trauma, paediatric and palliative care.
• Ability to work autonomously in a remote, unpredictable environment.
• Commitment to evidence‑based practice and teamwork.

Required skills

• Advanced nursing clinical skills.
• Leadership and team management.
• Mandatory training completion for WINHS.

• Band 6 salary £43,231‑£52,679 pro rata plus Distant Islands Allowance.
