Specialist Nurse – Urology

About the role

This is a substantive Specialist Nurse position within the Urology Department of NHS Lanarkshire. The role is centrally managed at University Monklands and involves working with complex diagnostic and treatment devices, ordering and signing off tests, and providing digital dictation support. The post holder will also deputise for the Team Lead when required.

Key responsibilities

• Operate and maintain urology-specific equipment such as flow machines, bladder scanners and specimen devices.
• Request, sign off and document diagnostic tests using digital dictation.
• Apply national leadership frameworks to assess and develop self‑leadership and lead others.
• Communicate complex clinical information to diverse audiences.
• Promote a supportive culture and provide constructive feedback.
• Deputise for the Team Lead as needed.

Required profile

• Registered Nurse or Allied Health Professional with a valid NMC/HCPC registration.
• Educated to degree level with a postgraduate qualification at minimum Level 10 (Hons) or working towards it.
• Demonstrated expertise in urology practice and the ability to lead safety initiatives.

Required skills

• Experience using flow machines, bladder scanners and specimen handling devices.
• Proficiency in digital dictation and test ordering processes.
• Knowledge of national leadership frameworks.
• Effective communication of complex clinical information.
