Specialist Rotational Pharmacist – Surgery & Planned Care

About the role

This permanent position is part of a specialist pharmacist rotational programme based at Victoria Hospital/Whyteman’s Brae Hospital in Kirkcaldy. Over a series of 9‑month rotations you will develop clinical pharmacy expertise across surgical and planned‑care specialties while working closely with multidisciplinary teams.

Key responsibilities

• Deliver patient‑focused pharmacy services in General Surgery, Cancer Services, Orthopaedic Surgery and Rheumatology.
• Participate in both inpatient and outpatient settings, including pharmacist‑led clinics.
• Support and lead service‑development projects to improve medication safety and effectiveness.
• Collaborate with pharmacy technicians, foundation pharmacists, nurses and other MDT members.
• Contribute to the planning and delivery of specialist care pathways.

Required profile

• Motivated, patient‑centred individual eager to expand clinical skills across multiple specialties.
• Willingness to obtain or build on an Independent Prescribing qualification (training fully supported).
• Ability to work in a fast‑paced, evolving inpatient environment.
• Strong teamwork and communication skills; previous hospital experience is not essential.

Required skills

• Clinical pharmacy knowledge applicable to surgical and planned‑care settings.
• Independent prescribing (or commitment to achieve qualification).
